Artwork by Dorry Spikes

Jez is a stori-wr, a story man, from Trefenter in Ceredigion. A musician, an artist, a man who speaks the language of story, as the folk poets spoke poetry in everyday conversation. He has told tales on many an occasion at the Arts Centre, once as Dai Verse, and wrote the music for the film The Funeral of the Last Gypsy King. Jez doesn’t do Facebook. The image is by illustrator Dorry Spikes who remembers Jez telling her tales. “When I was young I used to go to art classes with Haley and piano lessons with Jez at Wern Fach in Llangwyryfon. It was a tall and beautiful old farm house that smelt of stone in the shade, sesame seeds and rose oil with lots of hats in the attic. Sometimes after a morning’s drawing or in the candlelight of a messy party table Jez would tell us stories…”

Dorry’s illustration of Jez is part of the Siani Pob Man exhibition curated specially for the Storytelling Festival. Do come to the opening tonight at 7pm, for there will be cake.
