Festival Fringe Opening and artist’s talk in Oriel 2 Gallery Friday 7.00-7.45
Zoe Childerley is an artist, photographer and also a lecturer in
Photography and Video at De Montfort University. She has exhibited
nationally and internationally and undertaken numerous commissions and
residencies, working in the Caribbean, the Middle East, South East
Asia, the US and across the UK. Her work explores new environments, is
developed by interaction with different communities and is inspired by
the discovery of intertwining and lost histories. She creates images
that lie between areas of fiction and documentary and examines our
relationship with the natural world, our imagination and the power of
narrative, creating otherworldly images inspired by folk tales from
around the world, which cross cultures and generations.
Petrified in Storyland
An exhibition of images made during an Artist residency in
Aberystwyth. It explores the relationship between the Welsh mythology,
cultural identity and the visual residues found the landscape. The
landscapes are site specific, of places where events in Welsh myth and
story are known to have occurred. Portraits were made in the
landscape with local people who took Zoe to places that they knew to
be of mythological significance and poignant to their own lives.
